During an unknown cataclysmic event, a human soul was adversely effected and came into contact with a parallel dimension that was created by the existence of all chaotic human emotions. The soul formed a permanent link to that dimension and lost the restraints that cause all souls to lose their memory of past lives and granting him some ability to manipulate a sort of energy that is gathered there. Though the soul remained partially connected to that dimension, it was still able to form a body in this one. The body was that of a completely normal male human already of moderate age. Because the soul remained forever linked to a timeless dimension, the body lacks the ability to age and possesses many unnatural abilities. He will not die unless killed.

Although his body has only existed for a short time, the eternal wisdom his soul retained has allowed him to learn exceptionally fast, though he does not have any actual memories from his soul's past lives. With no purpose, he lacks any long term goals in his life and tends to work towards whatever interests him at the time. Names tend to carry no meaning to him since he was borne with none, causing him to use nick-names given by others, “Onimaru” being the first of those.

Onimaru and his ability to control and manipulate the alternate dimension's emotional energy gets stronger or weaker depending on his vicinity to other chaotic souls and what their feelings are. He can condense this power into spheres and project it as a beam, as well as use it to increase his physical strength. At times he can also control direct portals to and from the alternate dimension and combine two of them to create a direct doorway from one location in this universe to another. He also likes to manifest his excess energy as black or violet flames.

His speech and mannerisms resemble those of someone who has had no prior experience with life as a human. He can often be very blunt, noticing and explaining details that most normal people would consider insignificant. Regardless of his confidence, his facial expressions often remain similar to those of someone who has no idea what they are doing, making his appearance extremely misleading. His eyes lack pupils and look like those of someone who is under a trance. He has ruffled blond hair and wears a dark jacket and a headband with ribbons long enough to reach his feet.

He wields two ninja-ken (straight bladed katana) called Yamimaru and Hikarimaru that contain spirits that represent the purist forms of positive and negative feelings. He can summon these weapons from the particles around him so they are not often seen. He rarely uses them both at the same time since they combine upon contact to each other. When they combine they create a very large sword with a flat tip. It has a mirrored surface on both sides, separated by a deadly cutting edge. This sword represents the ultimate chaotic but balanced combination of positive and negative energies and emotions. Onimaru also carries an arrangement of knives and throwing weapons, he also tends to fight with his hands or with any basic weapon he happens to pick up, improvising and adapting his actions to every situation.
